BIOLOGICAL CONTROL:

Scale deposits, corrosion, and general fouling present risks to the efficient operation of commercial and industrial water systems. However, it is the problem of biological growth that is arguably the greatest threat to these systems. Uncontrolled growth of algae, fungi, and especially bacteria not only cause serious operational problems, but contribute to the manifestation of scale and corrosion problems.

THE REAL PROBLEM -- BIOFILMS

CHEM PRO was a pioneer in the water treatment profession for recognizing the biofilm issue. In the mid 1980’s, CHEM PRO personnel were discussing the problems of the biofim with their customers. Today this is a better understood issue and it has been well documented in the literature. However twenty years ago very few water treatment companies were designing programs to address this problem.

A biofilm is a surface attached population of biological growth, primarily bacteria. Traditionally, our industry has focused on the planktonic (free floating) organisms within the bulk water, by performing plate counts and using dip slides, etc. However, free floating organisms within a system rarely present any problems such as pressure drops, microbiologically induced corrosion, heat transfer reductions or downstream blockages.

CHEM PRO has an extensive line of biocides and biodispersants to minimize the risks associated with biofilm formation. A CHEM PRO representative can discuss a biological control program designed especially for your needs.
